| Over the years at Outback Campers, we have found that biggest is not always best. Many customers just want a tough and effortless camper trailer to suit two people. These customers generally liked the principle of the Sturt, but they did not need the storage and wanted something that could be towed behind smaller 4wds. This demand produced the Canning camper trailer, it features all of the same features as the Sturt, but is 100kg lighter due to the smaller toolbox and a narrower trailer width.
The Canning features the AK-LO independent rubber torsion bar suspension, electric brakes and an Orac off-road coupling so its well equipped to handle the roughest terrain. At only 500kg in weight, the Canning is one of the lightest camper trailers available that has so many features, yet can be truly classed as heavy duty off-road. It is light enough to suit many smaller 4WDs so that will also reflect in fuel consumption and its ability to go anywhere behind any vehicle. The trailer body walls are built out over the wheel guards for increased secure internal storage, rather than the traditional exposed wheel guard trailer design which is not as effective. The toolbox on the drawbar is designed to store 12V battery systems, gas bottles and jerry cans so that they are locked away securely and are out of collision areas.
The slide-out stainless steel kitchen is very easy to setup, along with a 2-burner gas stove and sink, the kitchen also features plenty of sturdy bench space and heaps of storage. All doors are lockable and have rubber seals to keep the dust and water out.
Outback camper tents are made from a combination of 12oz and 10oz Australian Bradmill canvas, we only use the highest quality canvas available. The tent folds from the rear of the trailer, providing convenient easy bed orientation, great storage access and is suitable for all caravan parks. The tent frame is gas strut assisted for easy operation and the tent it features 5 large flywire windows for maximum ventilation. After some practise, you should be able to set this camper up in between 5 to 10 minutes, and 20 minutes at the most with extra bedroom and annexes.
